For the United States Navy, vessels operating in Vietnamese waters qualify for the Vietnam Service Medal provided that the naval vessel was engaged in direct support of Vietnam combat operations. MEDAL - ARMY ARMED FORCES RESERVE MEDAL

  •  The United States military. This service may be cumulative, provided that the combined ten years of service was performed over a period of twelve consecutive years. Voluntary recalls to active duty are not counted within the ten years of service nor is service within the inactive reserves (IRR).

The Armed Forces Reserve Medal is also awarded to any member of the Reserve of National Guard who is mobilized to an active duty status. In such cases, the ten year period criterion is waived and the Armed Forces Reserve Medal is presented regardless of time in service. The Mobilization device is awarded as an attachment to the Armed Forces Reserve Medal in all such cases of mobilization to active duty.

The Armed Forces Reserve Medal is a service wide decoration for all branches of the military and is presented to both officers and enlisted personnel.

    Special Note:
There are six different varieties of this medal. All six varieties are identical on the front side of the medal, however, on the reverse side of the medallion is a special branch-specific symbol denoting each service personnel's unique branch of service. The six varieties are as follows: (1) U.S. Army; (2) U.S. Air Force; (3) U.S. Coast Guard; (4) U.S. Navy; (5) U.S. Marine Corps, and; (6) National Guard

MEDAL - UNITED NATIONS MEDAL

  •  Awarded to service members for six months service with any authorized United Nations Peace keeping mission. The award is one of several international decorations issued by the United Nations to the various militaries of the world for participation in joint international military operations such as peacekeeping, humanitarian efforts, and disaster relief. A United Nations Medal is ranked in most militaries as a service medal, meaning that it is not issued for a specific heroic or meritorious act, but rather for general participation in a broad operation. In most nations, the standard United Nations Medal is awarded
in lieu of a campaign specific medal. In the United States Armed Forces, service members are encouraged to only wear the standard United Nations Medal. A service member who received several United Nations Medals is permitted to display only one such medal on their military uniform, that medal being of the service member’s choice. Multiple United Nations Medals are then denoted by service stars on the United Nations Medal which is being displayed. Since the United Nations Medal is an international decoration, it is ranked in most militaries as a foreign award and displayed after all decorations of a service member’s particular military force.

MEDAL - BRONZE STAR

  •  US MEDAL, BRONZE STAR
Criteria: A U.S. Armed Forces individual military decoration and the fourth-highest award for bravery, heroism or meritorious service. Awarded to a member of the military who, while serving in or with the military of the United States after December 6, 1941, distinguished him or herself by heroic or meritorious achievement or service, not involving participation in aerial flight, while engaged in an action against an enemy of the United States; while engaged in military operations involving conflict with an opposing foreign force; or while serving with friendly foreign forces engaged in an armed conflict against an opposing armed force in which the United States is not a belligerent party. Awards may be made for acts of heroism, performed under circumstances described above, which are of lesser degree than required for the award of the Silver Star. Awards may also be made to recognize single acts of merit or meritorious service. The required achievement or service while of lesser degree than that required for the award of the Legion of Merit must nevertheless have been meritorious and accomplished with distinction. To be eligible for the Bronze Star Medal, a military member must be getting hostile fire/imminent danger pay, during the event for which the medal is to be awarded. The Bronze Star Medal is typically referred to by its full name (including the word "Medal") to differentiate the decoration from bronze service stars which are worn on campaign medals and service awards.

COMBAT INFANTRY BADGE (CIB)

  •  Infantrymen must have the skill and the will-not to just participate in the close fight, but to dominate it. From
World War II through Vietnam, four out of five combat deaths were sustained by infantrymen, who constituted only five percent of the US military manpower.

The Combat Infantryman Badge was approved by the Secretary of War on 7 October 1943 and announced in War Department Circular 269 dated 27 October 1943. On 8 February 1952, the Chief of Staff, Army, approved a proposal to add stars to the Combat Infantryman Badge to indicate award of the badge in separate wars. Under this change in policy, the badge was no longer limited to a one-time award, but could now be awarded to eligible individuals for each war in which they
    participated.
